Twenty Eleven Odds & Ends

December 28, 2011

Putting a nice little bow on the end of an insane year.

I began 2011 unmarried, at a job I thought I would be at for at least the next few years, and was generally just coasting along. But, as we all know, the only thing we can count on is change. And as things have a habit of doing, they changed and I know I have as well.

And so, here are a few projects that I had fun with, but don’t particularly have a home in the portfolio.

Cheers, Twenty Eleven. You will be remembered.

Bring it on, 2012. Can’t wait to see what changes.

What I Learned This Year, Part II

The fine folks over at the Tulsa Egotist asked me to submit my thoughts for their 2011 year-in-review series titled “What I Learned This Year.” I was super honored to be asked, and even more flattered that they accepted my submissions. And then they let me know I would be featured first.

That’s when I got nervous.

But the reception has be just out of this world cool. Super nice group, that Tulsa Egotist.

So, without much else, here was the accompanying note for “Learn To Forgive.”

How you react to someone who screws you over says a lot about your character. If you want to be remembered as someone who conducts their business with character, integrity, and love, a lot of times, you are going to have to forgive people for obvious wrongs that have been done to you. Let’s face it, there are only a few designers and creatives that will be remembered by time. The rest of us will be remembered by those we interact with on a daily basis. And those people care far more about your character than your creativity.

Looking at design is not the same as making design. There is a time to admire, and a time to grind out work. If you’re wanting to get better, you’re not going to improve your skills by trolling Dribbble, spending hours on Designspiration, or stalking incredible designers on Twitter. Design and creativity is a muscle and you have to continue to exercise it. Plain and simple, grind out better work today than you did yesterday.

Part II coming soon. “Learn to Forgive.”

Gelato Sneak Peek

August 26, 2011

MMMmmmmmmm. Gelato.

Part of a new branding effort for a gelato truck service for downtown Tulsa. Logo and other branding materials to be completed soon!

In the meantime, someone – anyone – please turn down the heat in Tulsa. I’m ready for fall, for goodness sakes.

P.S. I’m sure if you played your cards right, the hugs would be free, too.
